The New York Rangers are not expected to bid for idle restricted free agent forward Ryan O'Reilly of the Colorado Avalanche, reports Larry Brooks of the New York Post.

It's not that the Blueshirts aren't interested, or even that Colorado's asking price is too high. According to Books, the Rangers don't want to upset their salary structure with three of their own young players -- Ryan McDonagh, Derek Stepan and Carl Hagelin -- due to become RFAs this summer.

"The Rangers made it a policy, beginning in 2008-09 with Ryan Callahan and Brandon Dubinsky and continuing this year with Michael Del Zotto," Brooks writes, "to sign restricted free agents lacking salary arbitration rights to two-year 'bridge' deals."

O'Reilly is believed to be seeking a long-term pact.
