Flames' future in goal

2/13/2013

Given the news that 36-year-old Calgary Flames goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff's knee injury will keep him out another two weeks, it's not surprising that the club is searching for a long-term successor in net.

One option, apparently, is fellow Finn Karri Ramo, according to Chris Johnston of Sportsnet. Johnston reported Wednesday morning that Ramo, who spent parts of three seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning after being drafted by the Bolts in 2004, is "interested in returning to the NHL."

Ramo struggled during his first stint in the world's top league, registering a .873 save percentage in 48 games between 2006-07 and 2008-09. But he's allowing less than two goals a game this season for Avangard Omsk of the KHL -- suggesting he could fare better in North America next time around.
