NFL Rumors: Dion Jordan

The Philadelphia Eagles could use a pass-rushing outside linebacker, and they reportedly tried to acquire Dion Jordan from the Miami Dolphins nearly two months ago. Jordan played under Eagles coach Chip Kelly when they were still at Oregon.

The Miami Dolphins used the third overall pick in last year's draft to select Dion Jordan, but he played only 339 snaps and graded out as Pro Football Talk's No. 33 DE in 4-3 schemes. Surely, the club would like to see more from him in his second season, but it appears that they are skeptical about his ability to come through in 2014.

Will Fins expand rookie Jordan's role?

The Miami Dolphins used the third overall pick in this year's draft to add Dion Jordan to their defensive arsenal. Typically, we expect to see rookies get off to a slow start as they get their feet wet at the next level before their roles expand in the second half of the season. That hasn't been the case for Jordan, who hasn't topped 26 snaps in a game since Week 2. In fact, he bottomed out last week when he played just nine of 67 snaps against the rush-heavy Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Dion Jordan emerging

Miami Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake had a blistering start to the 2013 season, notching 2.5 sacks and 4 tackles in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns. Week 2 facing the Colts he was more quietly disruptive and in Week 3 against the Falcons he had to leave the game with what is now reported as a mild MCL sprain. Wake hasn't been ruled out of Monday night's game against the New Orleans Saints but a South Florida Sun-Sentinel report said that Wake will likely miss 2-3 weeks. The Pro Bowl pass rusher's shoes are not easily filled but the Dolphins showed they do have some depth on the defensive line.

The Miami Dolphins knew of Dion Jordan's lingering shoulder injury which required off season surgery when the team traded up to draft the pass rusher No. 3 overall. The team is now being cautious with the injury after Jordan missed a couple days of practice.

The Miami Dolphins dropped the third overall pick in this year's draft on Dion Jordan with the hope that he will give them a long-term pass-rushing beast. By the sounds of how he performed in practice Wednesday, he may be ready to do that sooner than later.

"The rookie defensive end was a terror against Miami's starting offensive line," wrote ESPN AFC East blogger James Walker. "Jordan registered two sacks while matched up against starting left tackle Jonathan Martin. Jordan also looked good in one-on-one drills. Jordan is very fluid and athletic in his movements and showed flashes of why Miami made him its top pick in April's draft."

The Miami Dolphins obviously thought the world of pass-rusher Dion Jordan this offseason, as they traded up to No. 3 overall to select him in the draft (jumping ahead of Chip Kelly, Jordan's collegiate coach, at No. 4). One would imagine that the club would want him to be playing a substantial role right from the get-go, but he won't simply be handed the position, either. So what's the latest?

University of Oregon pass rusher Dion Jordan was perhaps the most raw prospect taken in the first round of April's draft -- which means his absence on the first day of Miami Dolphins training camp was quite conspicuous.

It remains to be seen how well all of the Miami Dolphins' additions this offseason perform as a team, but one can't deny one thing: the Dolphins have kept themselves at the forefront of NFL discussion over the past several weeks. That trend continued with the draft, of course, as the Dolphins packaged their first two picks together to move from No. 12 to No. 3 and snag Oregon LB Dion Jordan. Now comes the question of where Jordan will fit in exactly to Miami's scheme.

Albert deal back on?

After it was announced that the Miami Dolphins had traded up to the No. 3 overall pick, it was assumed by many that they'd be taking OT Lane Johnson (following the selection of Eric Fisher and Luke Joeckel going 1-2). However, they opted instead to add pass-rusher Dion Jordan. Johnson's slide wasn't too long -- the Eagles snatched him at No. 4 -- and it certainly rekindles the Branden Albert trade rumors.

Mingo over Jordan for Philly?

One of the teams on whom it's been hard to get a handle regarding their first-round pick is the Philadelphia Eagles, currently situated at No. 4 overall. They could go CB, they could go pass-rusher, they could go offensive lineman, they could go with a QB of the future. Many have suggested that if it's a pass-rusher they want, they'd go with Dion Jordan, who was on Chip Kelly's Oregon team this past season. But apparently it's not that simple.

Rumors fly of Browns trade-up

At one point in time, the hot rumor was that the Cleveland Browns were poised to trade down from No. 6 overall, with the new set of decision-makers hoping to garner significant return on the value in that selection (perhaps from a team looking to grab an OT ahead of the Arizona Cardinals at No. 7 overall). However, over the past couple days, the new rumor is that Cleveland is looking to trade up.

Will Raiders trade No. 3 pick?

When the Oakland Raider acquired Carson Palmer from the Cincinnati Bengals, they gave up their second-round pick this season. That means that after the Raiders' No. 3 overall pick, they won't be in position to add another player via the draft for another 63 picks. Due to this situation, it has widely been assumed that they may trade down from No. 3 in order to acquire more picks.
