Vikes targeting a GB WR?

By Tom Carpenter

Donald Driver has played 14 seasons in the NFL and will turn 38 the day before the Super Bowl. Considering his advanced age and diminishing returns, there has been plenty of discussion about whether he will be back for a 15th campaign in 2013. On Tuesday, Fox 11 Sports in Green Bay reported that the Minnesota Vikings may be interested in adding him to their roster.

"FOX 11 has learned that the Minnesota Vikings would have an interest in the 37-year-old free agent wide receiver if he does not decide to retire," wrote Drew Smith.

The Vikings clearly need some depth at receiver, but it's very debatable whether the veteran Driver would give them what they need. Peter Dougherty of PackersNews.com thinks the Vikings may target a Packers WR, but it won't be Driver.

"It’s almost a given that the source for the Fox report – Driver has done a weekly in-season show with WLUK for years – is trying to stir up interest on Driver’s behalf," he wrote.

"Might the Vikings be interested in Greg Jennings, who will be a free agent in March? Sure, they need the help at receiver, and Jennings probably will be the best available. There’s plenty of reason to think they will go after him."

Jennings will turn 30 in September and surely would have a bigger impact for the Vikings offense than Driver, who mustered just 77 yards on eight catches this season.
