Chicago's potential LB additions
By Tim Kavanagh
The Chicago Bears don't have a firm resolution on the Brian Urlacher front yet, as the impending free agent told ESPN 1000 Radio on Tuesday that he's yet to speak with GM Phil Emery or new HC Marc Trestman about his future with the club, per ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert. Whether or not Urlacher is back for another season with the franchise, it's possible that the Bears will look to bolster their corps of LBs via free agency and the draft.
In a blog post this week, Jeff Dickerson of ESPNChicago.com ran through some options for Chicago in free agency. Of the group that includes Phillip Wheeler, Justin Durant, Rey Maualuga, Rocky McIntosh, Erin Henderson, Jasper Brinkley, Kaluka Maiava, Chase Blackburn, DeAndre Levy and Thomas Howard, Dickerson believes that Henderson and Wheeler may be of particular interest to Chicago, while Maualuga is a risk/reward type possibility.
As for the draft, we've been hearing for years that the Bears needed to invest in an heir apparent for Urlacher, but that individual does not appear to be on the club as of yet. This could be the draft where they finally land such a player.
