Checking in on Delmas
By Tim Kavanagh
In what's become a perennial festivity, we're keeping an eye on the health status of Detroit Lions S Louis Delmas again this summer, as he missed eight games in 2012, and five more in 2011. Delmas was re-signed this offseason, though his contract was worded such that he'll make most of his money only if he's on the field. If the trend from last season continues, he'll make the veteran's minimum.
As of now, Delmas believes that his knee is around 88 to 90 percent, and that he hopes to be 100 percent by the start of the season, according to MLive.com. But he's not prepared to change the way he plays the game in an effort to remain healthy.
"My coaches and a lot of people that know me have been trying to ask if the knee will change my style of play," Delmas indicated during a recent appearance with ESPN Radio's Sean Baligian. "But I've been playing this game since I was 8 years old and the only way I know how to play is full speed."
As with past offseasons, we'll get a better sense of Delmas' availability for the season once the team gets back on the field for training camp.
