Scott Wells' availability
By Tim Kavanagh
The St. Louis Rams captured one of the more important offensive line prizes in free agency last offseason, inking veteran Scott Wells to a four-year, $24 million deal. Unfortunately, a knee injury sustained in the spring was succeeded by a foot injury early in the regular season, and once he returned from the foot issue, he suffered another knee injury. Accordingly, he underwent a procedure to correct the latest knee problem after the season, per Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Neither Wells nor his agent was available to comment on the latest surgery, but Thomas believes that Wells should be recovered in time for offseason workouts, and certainly be good to go by the time training camp rolls around.
Next offseason, the Rams will have a decision to make on Wells, as the final guaranteed money on his four-year pact will be paid this season. His health during this campaign will go a long way in determining whether they continue their business relationship with him for the final two seasons on his contract, or release him next offseason.
