Rams' LG question persists
By Tim Kavanagh
Heading into the OTA/minicamp portion of the offseason, it appeared that the St. Louis Rams had four out of five positions on their starting offensive line spoken for: Jake Long would be at LT, Scott Wells at C, Harvey Dahl at RG and Rodger Saffold at RT. It's at LG where the battle would be waged, and that process appears set to continue when the club reconvenes for training camp later this summer.
Faced with a one-game suspension to start the season, Rokevious Watkins will nonetheless be one of the top competitors for the spot. He'll be facing off against Chris Williams, Shelley Smith, as well as rookie Barrett Jones, who has the versatility to play at multiple spots along the line. It's not immediately clear where the Rams want Jones to play, but LG probably represents the quickest path to a starting job (barring injury elsewhere, of course).
