Update on Jacksonville's hunt
By Tim Kavanagh
With head coach hirings occurring elsewhere in the NFL on Tuesday, one of the teams remaining without an HC is the Jacksonville Jaguars. This makes sense, as their search just began this past week after new GM Dave Caldwell elected to fire incumbent Mike Mularkey. We've heard of a link between Caldwell and 49ers OC Greg Roman, though as of now, the club is focusing on other candidates.
Our NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported that Jags DC Mel Tucker interviewed for the job on Monday, and that Rams OC Brian Schottenheimer was slated to interview as well, likely on Tuesday. According to the Florida Times-Union, the Jags will meet with Bengals OC Jay Gruden on Tuesday, too. At this point, it's unclear whether any of the current candidates is considered a favorite, or what the timeline is for the next steps.
It's possible that if Gruden, Schottenheimer or another offensive-minded coach is hired as HC, Tucker would stick around to continue to run the defense, though this is speculative, and he could take on an opportunity elsewhere.
