Potential Packers cap cuts
By Tim Kavanagh
Because of their ability to carry over some cap space from 2012 into 2013, the Green Bay Packers will have about $7 million in wiggle room this offseason, but with a number of key players in need of a new deal within the next season or two -- and some definite holes in need of filling on the roster -- the more room they can finagle in the coming weeks, the better.
That leads us to the potential cap casualties discussion. Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel has some ideas. In the scribe's view, S Charles Woodson (whose release would free up $10 million of cap space), TE Jermichael Finley ($8.25 million), FB John Kuhn ($2.6 million), LB A.J. Hawk ($2.25 million) and C Jeff Saturday ($2.2 million) are all potential cuts, though a re-structure seems more likely in Woodson's case and releasing Finley may not be wise with WR Greg Jennings set to leave in free agency himself.
They may release only some of the five, but it's clear that significant changes are on the way for Green Bay.
