Abraham or Freeney for Patriots?
By Tim Kavanagh
As they often do, the New England Patriots added a bargain-priced veteran this week, signing former Raiders DT Tommy Kelly to join the rotation with Vince Wilfork, Kyle Love and Brandon Deaderick. Earlier this offseason, the club had veteran DEs Dwight Freeney and John Abraham in for a visit, but since then, it's been remarkably quiet in terms of any buzz on either fellow. So are the Pats still interested?
ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss published a lengthy mailbag post on Tuesday afternoon, and he addressed the lack of perceived progress on a potential deal between the Pats and the two veteran DEs:
Mike ReissReiss' Weekly Mailbag
"My sense on this one is that it's all economics-based. If the contract works, I think the Patriots would still do it, but there are no indications that will be the case. I think they have a certain figure in mind but that doesn't align with what the veteran pass-rushers are currently seeking."
