Latest on RG III's recovery
By Tom Carpenter
The positive reports on Robert Griffin III continue to roll in. First, it was Dr. James Andrews saying that the quarterback was "superhuman" when it comes to his recovery from knee surgery. And Friday on NFL Network, it was Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan, who said that RG III is on an historic pace in his rehab.
“He’s over at the facility, rehabbing all of the time. He’ll set a record for coming back because that’s how hard he works,” Shanahan said, per the Washington Post's Mike Jones.
The next step of his recovery from a torn and surgically repaired ACL, LCL and meniscus will be running next week. However, despite all of the rave reviews, Shanahan knows that they won't have a true read on RG III's status for Week 1 until the QB is testing the joint out during training camp.
“He is ahead, but there is a process,” Shanahan said. “It takes time. Robert will do it the right way and we’ll find out in July exactly where he’s at. … He will not come back until he’s 100 percent.”
If RG III is not ready for Week 1, Kirk Cousins will be under center for the first snap of the 2013 campaign.
