Post-McCoy, Arizona's next move
By Tim Kavanagh
The Arizona Cardinals were interested in getting Broncos OC Mike McCoy in for a second interview, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic, but it appears that they may not get that chance. Somers reported Tuesday morning that the Cardinals don't have such an interview scheduled, and the reason: according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, McCoy has told the Broncos that he has agreed to become the next HC of the San Diego Chargers.
While we await official confirmation of the hire from the Chargers, we can begin to look at the next steps for both franchises. For the Cards, this will involve moving forward with other candidates. Per Somers, one of the candidates with whom they'll move forward is current DC Ray Horton. Horton was at the team facility on Monday, which could be a sign that he was going through a second interview, was getting some offseason work done, or was there to find out just where things stand.
We've yet to hear many more names linked to the Arizona vacancy -- Todd Haley has elected to stay in Pittsburgh, while Bruce Arians is not believed to be in the mix -- but there could be some options whose candidacy has thus far remained under wraps. Nevertheless, with the Senior Bowl festivities beginning next week (a period when NFL teams fill out their coaching staffs), it would not be surprising for Arizona to have made their choice by later this week.
