Jets finally name a GM
By AJ Mass
The New York Jets finally found a taker for their open general manager position, with former Seattle Seahawks executive John Idzik expected to be officially introduced as the team's newest hire sometime next week.
Idzik will not likely be afraid to spend a little money in free agency and to wheel and deal in order to turn the Jets roster into something more closely resembling a competitive professional football team, but as the Jets are reportedly just shy of $20 million over the cap, the money for making a huge change in personnel simply might not be there right now.
Plus, the one move Idzik is "stuck with" is head coach Rex Ryan, who ownership wants to have on the sidelines again in 2013. Expect this soap opera to remain active for quite some time. As the Jets turn...
Jets name John Idzik new GM
"The Jets set out to hire a GM with roots in scouting and personnel, but they opted for a longtime executive whose background is salary-cap management and contract negotiations. They surely will be criticized because it's an extension of the Mike Tannenbaum model, and he was fired at the end of the season."
