Trestman's possible DC
By Tim Kavanagh
UPDATE: ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter says the Bears have announced that they have indeed reached an agreement with Mel Tucker to fill their open DC position.
Out of the eight new HCs around the league this offseason, seven come from an offensive background while just one is from the defensive side (Gus Bradley). New Chicago Bears HC Marc Trestman and the other six, therefore, must find themselves someone to run the show on the other side of the ball, and it appears that there is a particular candidate that may be headed to Chicago soon.
According to what league sources have revealed to Dan Pompei of the Chicago Tribune, the Bears are "very interested" in Jaguars DC Mel Tucker to be their new man for that position.
Trestman did not divulge many specifics when it came to defense during his initial press conference, but the Tucker hire could be an indication that things may not be altered too much on defense in 2012; though he doesn't run a scheme exactly the same as the previous regime, the Jags did employ a base 4-3 alignment during his time as DC there. This may also be a factor in the decision on Brian Urlacher this offseason as well.
