Another second chance for 85?
By Tom Carpenter
In an interview with CSNHouston.com, Chad Johnson said he hoped to get a second chance to play in the NFL. Here's what he said when asked if he might want to join the Houston Texans, who are looking to add some depth to their pass-catching corps.
"I'm in no position to be picky, man," Johnson said. "There are not very many people who get second chances. For me, I think I've been very good to the NFL and for the NFL over a number of years, making the game fun and exciting -- but I did mess up, I messed up once. Right now I made my bed and I have to lay in it. Some people are given second chances, some people aren't. At this point, I think at this point I've learned my lesson."
The trouble with his reasoning is that teams arguably are less concerned with his off-field issues and more concerned with the lack of production on the field from the 35-year-old. You could argue that his failed attempt to stick with the Miami Dolphins last year was his second chance, and after blowing that opportunity it's unlikely that he will get another shot at playing in the NFL.
