Rams are biggest losers
By AJ Mass
The St. Louis Rams had already lost Steven Jackson and Danny Amendola to other teams when the news came down that Brandon Gibson had signed with the Miami Dolphins, making it three days in a row with a defection from the team. That would be bad enough without the news that two of the players they were hot in pursuit of decided to decline to sign with the Rams on Friday.
St. Louis thought they had made a strong offer to safety Louis Delmas, but he decided against leaving Detroit and returned to the Lions for two more season. But the proverbial kick to the groin came when left tackle Jake Long left town after three days of talks without a deal in place.
The Rams had made a big deal about bringing Long into the huddle, and according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, team executives had gone so far as to "tweet" photographs of what appeared to be a celebratory dinner at a local restaurant. The presumption was that a deal was imminent.
The presumption was wrong and now it appears that Long may well be headed back to the table with Miami. After all, they've already shown a willingness to spend a lot of money on their offense this off-season.
