Will Finley be back?
By Tim Kavanagh
There was some thought that the Green Bay Packers would sever ties with TE Jermichael Finley this offseason -- though he's maintained that he'd be back. As the week following the club's elimination from the playoffs proceeds, we've gotten some additional info that could offer a hint.
"I really felt Jermichael Finley was a different man, a different player from the bye week on," Packers HC Mike McCarthy indicated this week, per Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "I had an opportunity to talk to him about that at length in his exit interview, so I feel very good about the way he finished the year. He did some good things Saturday night (at San Francisco). There was a change in that young man."
Dougherty takes that statement from McCarthy as evidence that Finley will be retained. If so, the Packers owe the TE around $8.25 million in salary and bonuses for 2013. An interesting situation to monitor as we count down the days before the start of the next league year.
