More thoughts on Cassel

By Tim Kavanagh

Following the news that the Kansas City Chiefs had acquired QB Alex Smith from the San Francisco 49ers, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported that the Chiefs would subsequently be releasing current QB Matt Cassel at some point, making him an unrestricted free agent. Cassel will be joining a market whose other entrants include Matt Moore, Jason Campbell and Drew Stanton, but he's the only one of that crew on whom the franchise tag has ever been placed (the Pats did so prior to trading him to K.C.). So who will be targeting him as a free agent?

We've already heard him linked to the Cleveland Browns -- who are looking to add some competition for Brandon Weeden -- and Schefter has reported that the Arizona Cardinals will also have him on their radar. Other teams possibly looking for a veteran QB in free agency this season include the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets.
