The Jenkins-GB connection

By Tim Kavanagh

Following the Philadelphia Eagles' release of veteran DL Cullen Jenkins on Monday, speculation quickly turned to where he would wind up next. Two NFC East rivals -- the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys -- were mentioned as possibilities, but many were quick to point out that Jenkins was not altogether happy about leaving the Green Bay Packers a few seasons ago. So could he return there?

As Jason Wilde of ESPN Wisconsin writes, there hasn't been any confirmation of Jenkins' interest in a return (or the team's interest in a return), but there are signs that both sides are amicable to such an occurrence.

"The Packers have already reportedly expressed an interest in defensive end Chris Canty, who was cut last month by the New York Giants and is planning to visit Green Bay," Wilde notes. "With defensive end Jerel Worthy, a second-round pick last year, sidelined after his rookie season ended with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the Dec. 30 regular-season finale, the Packers have a need on the defensive line."

They'll need to come up with a mutually agreeable contract, but Jenkins likely won't be asking for the world this time around.
