Bidding war for Vasquez?

By Tim Kavanagh

The San Diego Chargers are going to be going through some changes this offseason, as a new HC and GM will begin the roster churn that will re-shape the roster to their liking. One of the biggest decisions they face is on impending free agent OG Louis Vasquez.

After doing some digging, Kevin Acee of U-T San Diego learned from his contacts around the league that the Chargers appear to be focused on re-formulating their offensive line this offseason. That makes sense, as they are one of the teams with a potentially great QB behind center, but Philip Rivers can't be great if he's running for his life on every snap. Part of the re-format, however, could include re-signing Vasquez, who was one of the more productive pieces for the Bolts in 2012.

But it appears they'll have some competition. The Colts hired the Chargers' former personnel director to the same position in Indy, and there's a sense that the Colts will be in on the bidding for Vasquez (if he reaches unrestricted free agency on March 12). So if the Chargers are serious about getting Vazquez back on the field in front of Rivers, they may consider moving quickly on that front to shield him from the Colts and any other poachers.
