Update on Bushrod talks

One of the key offseason plotlines for the New Orleans Saints is the status of impending free agent LT Jermon Bushrod. The Saints have budgeted more money for their guards in recent seasons -- so Bushrod shouldn't be expecting a market-setting deal -- but it's thought that they do want him back at the right price. The franchise tag will not be in play, as ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported recently. So where do things stand as of this week, as the March 12 opening of free agency quickly approaches?
According to what Bushrod himself tells the New Orleans Times-Picayune, no significant talks have taken place as of yet. That could change in the very near future, though: "It's about to get interesting," Bushrod quipped.
He's right, of course. If the Saints hold true to their word and do not tag him, there's scant time left to get a deal done. On the other hand -- and as we've seen many times over -- deadlines do spur action, so great headway could be made in a short amount of time. Stay tuned.
