Another CB idea for Philly
By Tim Kavanagh
Much of the conversation regarding the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason has been regarding their QB position: how good of a fit is Michael Vick in Chip Kelly's offense, and will they attempt to trade Nick Foles? But perhaps the position that is second on the list of debate topics is cornerback.
Of the two outside starters from 2012, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is an impending free agent, and it remains to be seen whether he comes back; the Eagles reportedly won't use the franchise tag on him, but a new multi-year contract hasn't been ruled out. As for Nnamdi Asomugha, he'll reportedly be asked to take a pay cut, and if he doesn't, he could be released. It's unclear how likely any of those scenarios are, but there's a hypothetical future world where neither Asomugha nor DRC is on the roster this fall.
One name to keep in mind if and when the Eagles go shopping for CB help is Sean Smith. Geoff Mosher of CSN Philadelphia passes along word that the Eagles are expected to target the Dolphins' impending UFA CB at the outset of free agency. For a sense of what Smith will cost, a recent report from the Palm Beach Post indicated that he is seeking $24 million guaranteed over three years.
