Tag, you're it
By AJ Mass
It's pretty clear that Joe Flacco will be a member of the Baltimore Ravens in 2013. The only remaining issue is that of how much money the quarterback will make and when all is said and done, it's really not going to matter much to anyone not named Joe Flacco.
According to a report in the Baltimore Sun, talks are ongoing between the Ravens and Flacco's agent, Joe Litna. No resolution has, of yet, been reached, but as long as the teams can come to an agreement before March 4, then there will be no need for the franchise tag to be used.
However, given the fact that Tyrod Taylor is the alternative at quarterback, you can be sure that the Ravens will choose to keep Flacco for a little over $20 million for 2013 rather than to let him walk away. Really, this negotiation is about 2014 and beyond.
Should talks fail, then perhaps Flacco might be in a lame duck situation as the Baltimore quarterback, but odds are everything works out in the end, with all parties happy with the outcome for years to come.
