Giants WR's knee better?

By AJ Mass

Part of the holdup in contract talks between Hakeem Nicks and the New York Giants may stem from knee surgery that the wide receiver had earlier this off-season. Nicks had a scope on his left knee, according to a report in the Newark Star-Ledger.

It's the same knee that Nicks first hurt back in Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, quite possibly because the receiver was overcompensating for pain in his previously fractured right foot. the team is hoping that this recent procedure will end this vicious cycle of injuries for their once-explosive down-the-field threat and return him to his past level of play.

Tom Coughlin says that his receiver's eyes are "big and bright again," but until the Giants are sure Nicks will have that "first step" back, they're not only going to be hesitant to take that next step in their negotiations with Nicks, but also may table long-term talks with Victor Cruz as well.
