Wilson's impact in Tennessee
By Tim Kavanagh
When the Buffalo Bills elected to release veteran S George Wilson (a defensive captain) recently, the Tennessee Titans were amongst the teams to show immediate interest in signing him. And after considering his options, Wilson has elected to accept the Titans' contract offer, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean. So what will his impact be for them in 2013 and beyond?
ESPN AFC South blogger Paul Kuharsky notes that landing a player at a position of need before free agency even begins is a big win for Tennessee. But more specifically, this is a move that should help fellow S Michael Griffin immensely:
Paul KuharskyWilson should help settle Griffin
"This means Tennessee can ensure that Michael Griffin will play as the free safety. While there is no guarantee the inconsistent Griffin will be better, this maximizes the chances. He's got ball skills that should put him at his best when allowed to play as a centerfielder and play the football instead of trying to corral a player that already has it. Griffin played his best when paired with a wily veteran, Chris Hope, and Wilson is likely to serve as a secondary organizer much in the fashion that Hope did."
