Washington's RT search

By Tim Kavanagh

Owing to their trade to acquire the No. 2 overall pick in last year's draft (and eventually select Robert Griffin III), the Washington Redskins don't have a first-round pick in 2013. But to fill one of their most vital vacancies, the lack of such a selection won't really make too much of a difference.

As Rich Campbell of the Washington Times writes, Mike Shanahan's team needs a starting right tackle, as the contracts for both Tyler Polumbus and Jammal Brown are set to expire. It's uncertain that they'll be re-signing either man, which leads them to free agency and the draft.

Impending free agents at RT this offseason include Detroit's Gosder Cherilus, New England's Sebastian Vollmer and Cincinnati's Andre Smith, though these players may be headed back to those teams. As for the draft, prospects like D.J. Fluker, Menelik Watson and Brennan Williams lead the rankings at RT, and could be available for Washington with their second-rounder.
