Tag plans for Seattle

By Tim Kavanagh

Judging by the reports we've heard thus far regarding the Seattle Seahawks, this offseason will be more about making some tweaks to the roster, as opposed to an outright overhaul. One of the tools that teams can use in an effort to maintain continuity is the franchise tag. So will Seattle be using it?

At this point, the player most likely to be tagged on Seattle's roster is actually placekicker Steven Hauschka, as the tag figure for kickers and punters is just $2.926 million. Of course, they may just forgo using the designation altogether.

"We're still evaluating that," Seahawks GM John Schneider revealed Thursday during a presser at the scouting combine, per the Tacoma News Tribune. "I don't necessarily see us using it."

The Seahawks have other free agents they'd like to retain -- such as CB Marcus Trufant and DT Jason Jones -- but will use traditional contracts to do so as opposed to the high-priced tag.
