Tag for McAfee?

By Tim Kavanagh

The Indianapolis Colts are one of the teams with the most projected space under the salary cap this offseason, but that number will change once they've made decisions on all of their own free agents ahead of the March 12 start of the league year. One of the players whose contract is expiring could be franchised, and there's reason to believe that the Colts may use this designation on P Pat McAfee.

McAfee is not just a punter, as Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star writes. On the field, he handles kickoff duties, had eight special teams tackles in 2011 (sharing the team lead), is a holder on field goals, and could one day himself be a placekicker; off the field, he's established himself in the community, as well as his popular Twitter feed.

Furthermore, the tag figure for punters and kickers is relatively low ($2.926 million), and as noted above, the Colts have plenty of cap space to fit such a salary into their budget.
