More thoughts on Freeney

By Tim Kavanagh

UPDATE: A couple more teams to keep in mind for Freeney.

During an interview on SiriusXM NFL radio, the Syracuse product -- who grew up in Connecticut -- indicated that he'd be interested in playing for either of the New York City-area franchises, should they be interested in adding him. "I actually know Rex [Ryan]," Freeney revealed, per the New York Daily News. "I met him a few times. Rex knows how to free guys up. That would be a good fit."

As for MetLife Stadium's other tenant, "I grew up a Giants fan, actually," the DE confirmed. "All my life. So that would be a dream. Wherever I go, I'm just going to give it my all."

Scheme-wise, the Giants would appear to be a better fit for the long-time 4-3 DE who converted to playing OLB in the Colts' 3-4 in 2012; on the other hand, Ryan has shown the ability to get the most out of any player within his system by catering to the player's strengths.

The Indianapolis Colts announced recently that they won't be pursuing a new deal for impending free agent DE Dwight Freeney. It wasn't a shocking development, but it does mean that he'll be playing elsewhere in 2013. As this week has proceeded, two possibilities have been raised as to his next destination.

During an appearance on "Pro Football Talk," Freeney revealed that Broncos QB Peyton Manning, his former teammate in Indy, had texted him in an attempt to lure him to Denver. Freeney indicated that he wasn't sure if Manning was serious, and as Mike Klis of the Denver Post notes, the Broncos already have a pretty good set of pass-rushers in Elvis Dumevil and Von Miller.

Peyton wasn't the only player attempting to woo Freeney to his team, however; Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White tweeted the following on Wednesday afternoon: "I would love to see Dwight Freeney in a falcon uniform next year I hope that's not tampering." It's not, and the idea of Freeney to Atlanta isn't a bad idea, either.
