JaMarcus' training a work in progress
By Tom Carpenter
JaMarcus Russell is attempting a comeback to the NFL, and, not surprisingly, he has a long, long way to go. Per Bleacher Report (via Mark Inabinett of AL.com), Russell is working out at the Test West Football Academy and came up short of CEO Brian Martin's expectations during the QBs most recent testing.
Martin expected Russell to run a 40-yard dash in no more than 4.8 seconds, but the QB ran a 5.2. Martin also expected a 33-inch vertical leap, but Russell topped out at 29.
"I'm heavier than normal," Russell said. "This is just getting some perspective on where we're at.
"Once the pro day comes, I'll be in some great shape and my numbers will excel."
Russell initially weighed 310 pounds when he began working with Martin and is aiming to get down to 265 pounds. Even if he manages to get down to that weight, he is going to have to make an eye-opening impression on and off the field in order to convince an NFL team to take a chance on him in 2013. Don't hold your breath.
