The Amendola tag possibility

By Tim Kavanagh

On Monday, we linked to a report that indicated that the St. Louis Rams and impending free agent WR Danny Amendola were "far apart" in contract talks. Representatives from the two sides will have a chance to meet this week at the scouting combine, but with less than a month before the start of free agency, it seems possible that the Rams could use their franchise tag on the WR.

However, in the opinion of Nick Wagoner of StLouisRams.com, such an outcome is unlikely, given Amendola's injury history and the high cost of the tag ($10.357 million). Whether this is Wagoner passing along a tidbit from a member of the front office in an attempt to gain leverage, the fact remains that this is a high price to pay for a player who has had trouble staying on the field. On the other hand, Amendola has established himself as QB Sam Bradford's favorite target, and keeping him in a Rams uniform will help the passer take the next step as an NFL QB.
