Canty to Carolina?
By Tim Kavanagh
The Carolina Panthers have a new GM -- Dave Gettleman -- that came over from the New York Giants, and that means they've got some inside info on any of the Giants' impending free agents, as well as the players New York has released already (including RB Ahmad Bradshaw and DT Chris Canty). That's led some to wonder whether Canty would be a fit with the Panthers, especially given the fact that the DT was a star in Charlotte back in his high school days.
Though the team has yet to reach out to him for a visit, Canty indicated during a recent appearance on WFNZ that he did get a text from LB Thomas Davis that read, "It's time for you to come on home." Furthermore, he admitted that he might accept a smaller contract in exchange for being able to play in front of his hometown fans.
"I might be willing to do the hometown discount," Canty quipped. "We have to see what other opportunities are out there."
Tennessee reportedly has an offer on the table for Canty, and Detroit is also interested, having hosted him last week. As for the possibility of seeing Canty in a Panthers uniform, here's ESPN NFC South blogger Pat Yasinskas:

Not a terrible idea"The Panthers have a glaring need at defensive tackle, so there's plenty of logic for a potential homecoming. But Canty might have to give the Panthers a huge discount to make this happen because they have very little salary-cap room."
