No trade for Harvin?
Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman is adamant that Percy Harvin will be on the team next season, even though rumors of potential deals to New England, Seattle, Jacksonville or San Francisco have circled the wide receiver since the season ended.
"Percy Harvin is under contract and we expect him, just like all of our players under contract, to be here," Spielman told reporters Friday. "Again, there is no intent to trade Percy Harvin."
What else could Spielman say here? If he admits the team is unhappy with Harvin, then that might drive the price down while at the same time, putting more distance between Harvin and the team, which could end up really hurting locker room chemistry should a deal come to fruition.
Between the Harvin situation and the team's unwillingness to go "all in" with Leslie Frazier as their head coach - see below - it does seem like the Vikings are content to let 2013 play out and then blow up the franchise with wholesale changes in 2014 should the team falter.
Kevin SeifertAnother 'prove-it' year for Leslie Frazier
"To be clear, the Vikings have opted against rewarding Frazier for a 10-6 season. Instead, they committed to rendering judgment next year at this time. (Barring the existence of another hidden option, of course.) To avoid a lame-duck situation in 2014, they will need either to extend Frazier's contract or fire him after the 2013 season. "
