Update on Amendola, S-Jax
By Tim Kavanagh
The St. Louis Rams had to be happy with what they got out of Year One of the Jeff Fisher era in 2012: though they failed to qualify for the postseason at 7-8-1, they were 4-1-1 in the NFC West, which is a pretty terrific feat given the presence of two powerhouses in Seattle and San Francisco this past season. One big question this offseason involves their ability to bring back key offensive contributors.
The contributors in question are WR Danny Amendola -- QB Sam Bradford's favorite target -- and lead RB Steven Jackson. Jackson has the ability to void his current deal ahead of the March 12 start of the next league year, and there has been little negotiation up to this point with him. As for Amendola, some believe the team will use its franchise tag on him, as there is concern regarding his durability, which lessens the idea that he'd get a long-term pact.
On Friday, Fisher told the media that the team is still hopeful of bringing both of them back, per Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Negotiations with the representatives for both players will pick up at the scouting combine, and the team can place the tag on Amendola as soon as this coming Tuesday. If neither is retained, the Rams will need to get to work quickly on finding replacements.
