Latest talk on Melton

By Tim Kavanagh

By all appearances, the Chicago Bears are pleased with what they've gotten recently out of DT Henry Melton, and would like to extend their business relationship with him. The two options by which this can happen are a new contract agreement (likely spanning more than one season) or the franchise tag.

The Bears haven't officially commented on any personnel matters as of late, but they can officially tag Melton anytime next week up through the deadline on March 4. According to the Chicago Tribune, they will do so if a contract has not been reached by that point. It's expected, however, that the Bears will be meeting with Melton's agent, Jordan Woy, at the scouting combine in an attempt to finalize a new deal for the Texas product.

If, by some chance, Melton is not tagged -- and doesn't re-sign -- he has been linked to the Dallas Cowboys, who are the current employer of former Bears DC Rod Marinelli.
