Martellus' next stop
By Tim Kavanagh
After four relatively underwhelming seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, Martellus Bennett signed with the division rival New York Giants and nearly doubled his career receptions and yardage, while adding five TDs to a career total that had previously been just four. Obviously, he forged a pretty good relationship with Eli Manning, but it's a relationship that's on the rocks right now: Bennett's contract is up, and there's no certainty that he'll be re-signed.
On Thursday, Bennett broke his silence and tweeted his priorities for signing his next contract. "Everyone keeps asking me about free agency. My outlook is NYG and if not wherever my brother is most likely."
"My brother" refers to Tampa Bay Buccaneers DE Michael Bennett, who, as luck would have it, is also a free agent this offseason. Like his younger brother, Michael is expected to be in his incumbent team's plans in the coming season; Tampa Bay has considerable cap space, and Bennett has been a productive player for them. With Dallas Clark not guaranteed to come back, signing Martellus would be a wise move by the Bucs if he doesn't work something out to stay in New York.
