Latest on Jags' next HC
By Tom Carpenter
ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported Wednesday morning that Gus Bradley is traveling to Jacksonville today to meet with Jacksonville Jaguars officials regarding their open head coach job. The Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator met with the Philadelphia Eagles Tuesday.
Bradley joins Jags DC Mel Tucker, St. Louis Rams OC Brian Schottenheimer, San Francisco 49ers OC Greg Roman. Cincinnati Bengals OC Jay Gruden and Atlanta Falcons ST coach Keith Armstrong as candidates to replace Mike Mularkey.
ESPN AFC South blogger Paul Kuharsky thinks one of them has an edge, but he wonders whether the Jags will choose a coach with an offensive background over those from the other side of the ball.
"Roman could rate as a favorite as he has a long-time friendship with [GM David] Caldwell," Kuharsky noted. "That’s three offensive guys, two defensive guys and one special teams guy. It’s a quarterback league, and it’s easy to say a guy who can develop a quarterback should get the nod. But a defensive guy can come in more able to stop the league’s quality quarterbacks, so long as he can hire quality coaches to work with his own."
