Will Redskins keep LG Lichtensteiger?
By Tom Carpenter
The Washington Redskins interior offensive line developed into a key part of their run to the playoffs this season, but will they be able to keep it intact for next season? Rich Tandler of CSNWashington.com examined the starters from that group and expects center Will Montgomery and right guard Chris Chester to return next season, since they have reasonably priced contracts. Whether left guard Kory Lichtensteiger is a Redskin next season is a bit more complicated, because he will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
"If the Redskins pay him starter money his salary would be pushed into the range of where Chester and Montgomery are. That would not [be] an astronomical amount of money to pay your interior line but a team dealing with an $18 million salary cap penalty has to look to save where it can," Tandler wrote. "And left guard might be one of those areas."
Lichtensteiger said he hopes to stick with the team going forward, noting that in his mind "the best-case scenario for me is that I get a new deal here."
