No tag for Ed Reed?
By Tim Kavanagh
The Baltimore Ravens have a big group of impending free agents, and it's a list that includes Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco and S Ed Reed, the latter of whom has been a cornerstone of the franchise for a decade. Some surmised that one would get a multi-year contract extension while the other would earn the franchise tag. However, that may not wind up being the case.
Though GM Ozzie Newsome won't rule out using the franchise tag on Flacco if negotiations haven't progressed to a good spot prior to the deadline, he's the only potential taggee. "If we get a deal done with Joe, we will NOT franchise another player," Newsome proclaimed Thursday, per Albert Breer of NFL.com.
If Reed doesn't wind up back with the Ravens -- and bear in mind, he may end up signing there even after exploring the market -- he's been linked to the Patriots and Saints, though this has been mostly speculative.
