Latest on Grantham, Eagles and Saints
By Tom Carpenter
It's NCAA signing day for college football, and that may end up shedding some light on the defensive coordinator situation for the Philadelphia Eagles. Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham has been tied to the New Orleans Saints and Eagles as a potential DC candidate. However, the mother of Georgia recruit Davin Bellamy said Wednesday morning that she has been told that Grantham is staying at Georgia, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
"Coach Grantham talked to Davin and assured him that he had nothing to worry about and that he was staying at Georgia and he would be Davin’s position coach,” Bridgett Bellamy said. “He’s been recruiting him now for several months and Davin has his word that he will be there when Davin starts at Georgia in the fall. I was glad to hear that."
Obviously, we have to take this information with a grain of salt until we hear from Grantham himself. ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter tweeted last night that the Saints intend to hire Rob Ryan, though Larry Holder of the Times-Picqyune reported that the Saints will interview Grantham Thursday before a final interview with Ryan. CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora also tweeted last night that the Eagles remain interested in Grantham, so that door appears to remain open, too. Stay tuned.
