Update on Saints' DC hunt
By Tim Kavanagh
Upon Sean Payton's reinstatement, he wasted little time in identifying and eliminating one of the problems from the 2012 iteration of the team, firing DC Steve Spagnuolo after the former Rams HC engineered one of the league's most porous defensive units. It was little late in the game to be making changes, but there are some strong candidates remaining out there.
It appears, however, that the Saints may be getting close to making a hire. Gil Brandt of NFL.com reports that the franchise has two top choices to take over as the next DC: former Chiefs HC Romeo Crennel and former Cowboys DC Rob Ryan.
If it's Ryan, there's a chance he may be able to lure impending free agent OLB Anthony Spencer over, provided the Saints can clear up some cap space. As for the soon-to-be-former Chiefs hitting free agency, there's DE Glenn Dorsey, whose addition would be exciting for the LSU fans in the Saints' fanbase, but may not be the smartest addition given Dorsey's track record in the NFL.
