Chargers WRs valuable this week?
By Nic Reiner
Philadelphia Eagles starting cornerback Bradley Fletcher will not play this Sunday against the San Diego Chargers. This throws a kink into the Eagles secondary corps and makes us wonder how it will influence the effectiveness of San Diego wideouts in Week 2.
Third-year WR Vincent Brown is currently listed at No. 41 in our fantasy football wide receiver rankings and we wrote yesterday about why it might be his time. Malcolm Floyd, for his part, is slotted at No. 49 by our experts.
As Phil Sheridan wrote, one of the key mismatches that could be facing the Eagles is that backup corner Brandon Boykin is 5-foot-9 and will often have to go up against the 6-foot-5 Floyd. Sheridan notes Boykin won't have to cover Floyd the whole game because the Eagles will move his corners around, possibly having the 6-foot-1 Cary Williams cover Floyd while Boykin covers 5-foot-10 Eddie Royal.
Boykin wouldn't be starting if he couldn't hold his own on the outside, even while giving up eight inches. Still, we have to think quarterback Philip Rivers will take his chances with the supposed mismatch throughout the game.
