Update on Philly's DC options
By Tim Kavanagh
The Philadelphia Eagles made their HC hiring official later than some of the other teams this offseason, so it's not completely surprising that they've yet to fill some key positions on Chip Kelly's staff. Nevertheless, some are beginning to get impatient with the club in their delay in naming Kelly's defensive coordinator, a key hire considering his background.
As Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer points out, there are two events this week that may have prevented the Eagles from naming their new man for the job. The Super Bowl -- which took place Sunday night, for those unaware -- featured a number of assistants on both sidelines who have been linked to the opening: Ravens LB coach Ted Monachino, 49ers DB coach Ed Donatell and D-line coach Jim Tomsula. In addition, some believe that the national signing day for collegiate recruits on Wednesday has pushed back any assistants from high-profile programs from leaving, as this could impact the final decisions for certain players. Georgia DC Todd Grantham has been mentioned as an option in Philly for the same position.
We'll know soon enough whether any of the above-mentioned coaches are the choice for Kelly and the Eagles or whether they've truly gone under the radar for their next hire. Stay tuned.
