MJD's next contract
By Tim Kavanagh
New Jacksonville Jaguars GM David Caldwell knew he'd have a lot of work to do when he took the job -- as can be expected when a team has just gone 2-14 and hasn't played a postseason contest since Jan. 12, 2008 -- and while the QB position is of more immediate attention, there is a lingering issue with his club's star player, RB Maurice Jones-Drew. MJD, who held out last preseason in an effort to get a new deal, is entering the final season of his current contract.
Jones-Drew is busy recuperating from a foot injury that short-circuited his 2012 campaign, and plans on showing up to all offseason work with the club. Concerning a new deal for MJD, Caldwell recently said, "We'll address that toward the end of the season," per Jaguars.com.
At that point, the team will have a better handle not only on what MJD can bring to the table, but also with what they've got at the QB and WR position: if their offense has shifted to a more air-oriented attack featuring Blaine Gabbert, Chad Henne or someone else, they won't need to make a big investment in the RB position with MJD or another big-name back.
