Nicks hogging the salsa?
By AJ Mass
The New York Giants have not yet signed fan-favorite Victor Cruz to a new contract, though negotiations between the free agent wide receiver and the team have been ongoing, albeit a glacier-like pace.
Team ownership has said that they would love to keep Cruz on the team, but apparently that's a secondary concern to another wide receiver who is still under contract with the team. The pecking order is clear in the huddle is clear. Hakeem Nicks still has one year left on his existing deal, but the Giants are adamant that they wish to lock him up for seasons to come before they turn their focus to Cruz.
With management talking about "limits" to how much they're willing to spend to keep Cruz around, the upshot of this all may mean that Cruz's fate might lie in Nicks's hands. Should his asking price be too high, he may well end up taking too much of the pie to allow Cruz to be satisfied enough to stick around.
Adam SchefterGiants prioritize Hakeem Nicks' deal
"Nicks finished third on the Giants with 53 receptions, notching 692 yards and three touchdowns. It was the first time in three seasons that Nicks did not have at least 76 receptions, 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns in a season. The Giants also would like to keep the 26-year-old Cruz, but at this time, Nicks' contract status is the higher priority."
