Vikings should reward Allen

By AJ Mass

The Minnesota Vikings left it all on the field this past season, but injuries to key players certainly hampered their chances at extending their playoff run. Jared Allen is one of those injured players, and as a result, he just had surgery for the first time in his NFL career.

Allen went under the knife to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, according to a report by 1500ESPN.com's Tom Pelissero, an had been hampered by the problem all season long. He had delayed the operation so that he could participate in the Pro Bowl, a testament to his commitment to the game.

Allen should be very motivated to be ready in time for training camp as he is entering the final year of his contract with the team. Showcasing his skills with another top tier season is sure to generate interest on the free agent market, should the Vikings decide to forego the idea of an extension, but we tend to think he'll be rewarded for his loyalty and dedication with a restructured deal.
