More Urlacher buzz
By Tim Kavanagh
During Marc Trestman's introductory press conference, the new HC of the Chicago Bears did not get into too much detail regarding impending free agent LB Brian Urlacher, beyond saying that he believed No. 54 embodied the idea of "what being a Chicago Bear is all about." Earlier this week, Urlacher appeared on the "Waddle and Silvy" show on ESPN 1000, and revealed that he'd yet to speak with either Trestman or Bears GM Phil Emery.
On Thursday, fellow Bears LB Lance Briggs -- who himself had some contract issues with the club recently -- indicated that he'd prefer having his running mate back in 2013 and beyond. "I hope he's back," the LB noted, via the Chicago Sun-Times. "I hope the organization does the right thing and they bring him back."
Though the decision on Urlacher is a big one, its aftermath could bring about an even bigger question: Who, exactly, will replace him in the lineup if he's not re-signed? There's no real heir apparent on the roster now, and finding someone of Urlacher's ilk is nearly impossible in free agency, and difficult in the draft.
