Ideas for Shonn Greene
By Tim Kavanagh
With a little over a month to go before free agency begins, we're beginning to get more hints as to where particular free agents could wind up signing. There are a lot of familiar names that will populate the RB market if their incumbent teams don't re-sign or franchise tag them, and amongst them is Shonn Greene.
Greene very quietly racked up another 1,000-yard season in 2012, and his eight rushing TDs is the most he scored during his four-year career thus far. It's hard to get a read on whether the New York Jets will re-sign him, but given their salary cap situation, he may be headed elsewhere.
ESPN AFC West blogger Bill Williamson analyzed Greene's fit with the four teams in that division, noting that a case could be made for any of them landing Greene. However, perhaps the best situation for both parties would be if the Iowa product signed with San Diego:
Bill WilliamsonThis fit makes sense
"The Chargers need a legitimate running back because Ryan Mathews is just not durable. If healthy, I think Mathews and Greene could be a good combination. The Chargers have other needs and some cap limitations, but this might something to look into for San Diego."
