Competition at CB for Miami

Heading into the 2012 preseason, the Miami Dolphins appeared well-stocked at the CB position, with Sean Smith manning one starting slot and Vontae Davis the other. However, after Davis was traded during training camp then, Smith wound up leaving in free agency this March, leaving the team a little thin at the position, with incumbents Richard Marshall, Nolan Carroll and Jimmy Wilson atop the depth. They addressed this deficiency in signing Brent Grimes in free agency, but also added three prospects in the draft.
